Roberto Nicolai Roma “La Sapienza” Üniversitesi'nde eğitim görmüştür: 1983'te lisans; 1986'da Scuola Speciale per Archivisti e Bibliotecari'de el yazmaları uzmanı olarak yüksek lisans; 1990'da doktora (Dottorato di ricerca). 1994 ve 1995 yıllarında Cassino Üniversitesi'nde eskiçağ grekçe dilinden sorumlu öğretim üyesiydi. 1995-1998 yılları arasında Roma “La Sapienza” Üniversitesi Eskiçağ Grek ve Latin Filolojisi Bölümü'nde araştırma görevlisi olarak çalışmıştır. 1998'den 2001'e kadar Sassari Üniversitesi'nde Eskiçağ Grek edebiyatı profesörü olarak görev yapmıştır. Kasım 2001'den itibaren aynı üniversitede Eskiçağ Grek edebiyatı profesörü olarak görev yaptı. Kasım 2006'dan itibaren Roma Üniversitesi “La Sapienza”, Scienze Umanistiche (=İnsani Bilimler) Fakültesi'nde Eskiçağ Grek edebiyatı profesörü olarak görev yapmaktadır. Aralık 2008'den Ekim 2010'a kadar bu fakülte'nin dekanlığını yapmıştır. Kasım 2012'den Ekim 2015'e kadar Lettere e Filosofia (=Edebiyat) Fakültesi dekanı olarak görev yapmıştır.

Eskiçağ Grek tarihi ve coğrafi edebiyatı ve Attika tragedyası üzerine birçok katkısı bulunmaktadır. 1992 yılında La storiografia nell'educazione antica'yı yayınlamış ve 1998 yılında Polybios'un İtalyanca çevirisinin editörlüğünü yapmıştır. 2000 yılında Giusto Traina ile birlikte Strabo XI ve XII'yi çevirdi. 2004 yılında Studi su Isocrate'i yayınladı. L. E. Rossi'nineskiçağ grek edebiyatı üzerine yazdığı el kitabına (1995) katkıda bulunmuş ve Enciclopedia oraziana'nın yayın kurulu üyeliğini yapmıştır. “Seminari Romani di cultura greca “nın yöneticisi ve ‘Storiografia’, ‘Histos’, ‘Talia dixit’, ‘Philología Hispalensis’, ‘Ordia prima’, ‘Studia Oliveriana’ ve ‘Aitia’ dergilerinin yayın kurulu üyesidir. GAHIA (Geography and Historiography in Antiquity") yönetim kurulu üyesidir.

Prof. Dr. Roberto Nicolai received his education at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”: he completed his undergraduate studies in 1983; obtained a postgraduate specialization in manuscript studies from the Scuola Speciale per Archivisti e Bibliotecari in 1986; and earned his Ph.D. (Dottorato di ricerca) in 1990. Between 1994 and 1995, he served as a faculty member responsible for Ancient Greek language at the University of Cassino. From 1995 to 1998, he worked as a research fellow in the Department of Ancient Greek and Latin Philology at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”. From 1998 to 2001, he was appointed Professor of Ancient Greek Literature at the University of Sassari. Since November 2001, he has continued in the same role at the same university, and from November 2006 onwards, he has held a professorship in Ancient Greek Literature in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.

He served as Dean of the Faculty of Humanities from December 2008 to October 2010, and as Dean of the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy from November 2012 to October 2015.

Prof. Nicolai has made numerous contributions to the study of ancient Greek historical and geographical literature, as well as Attic tragedy. In 1992, he published La storiografia nell'educazione antica and in 1998, he edited the Italian translation of Polybius. In 2000, together with Giusto Traina, he translated Books XI and XII of Strabo. In 2004, he published Studi su Isocrate. He also contributed to the 1995 handbook on Ancient Greek literature by L. E. Rossi and served on the editorial board of the Enciclopedia oraziana. He is the director of the Seminari Romani di cultura greca and sits on the editorial boards of several journals including Storiografia, Histos, Talia dixit, Philología Hispalensis, Ordia prima, Studia Oliveriana, and Aitia. He is also a board member of GAHIA (Geography and Historiography in Antiquity).
