He served as Professor of Ancient GreekHistoryandHistoricalGeography of the Ancient World until 2020, andsubsequently as HonoraryProfessor at theUniversity of Florence. He alsoheldpositions as VisitingProfessor in thefield of Ancient GreekHistory at the DAI in Berlin and at theUniversity of Reims-Champagne-Ardenne.

He is a board member of the E. KirstenGesellschaftfürhistorischeGeographie der altenWelt (Stuttgart-Berlin), and a member of numerousacademiccommittees of classicalcollectionsandinternationaleditorialprojects. He collaborateswith H.-J. Gehrke as general editor in a geographybookproject.

His workfocuses on Atticlaw, Siciliantyranny, thehistory of Boeotia in theHellenisticperiod, historiography in the 4th century BC, andGreco-Roman ideas on thecosmologicalgeography of theworld.
